Cheap Cruise Rate
Cheap Cruise Rate

I want to take my two sons on a cruise this summer, but I need an exceptional deal to afford it. Any ideas?

I'd like to cruise to go somewhere warm (Puerto Rico, tje Caribbean), and it could be as short as 4 days, as long as 7 days. We can all stay in the same room. I'd like to go before hurricane season... July?? Second option is a research cruise, especially if the rates are that much better. Preferably, we'd leave from or close to New York City, because we live just fifty miles north. Would this be the cheapest way to go? Thanks for your help.

EDIT: I completely forgot to mention this last night. I know you said you wanted to go before hurricane season. I'm not sure if this because of dates your able to travel, or if you want to avoid the season because of hurricanes. If it is the latter, here is one other tip. I have gone on many cruises during Hurricane season and never had one problem. The captain will monitor all storms or any activity. If they feel that it is not safe, or if a hurricane has formed, they will move the course of the ship and go around it. Now, in some cases this may mean that you won't get to go to the original port that was planned, but more often than not you will go to another port if it is possible. Now, in all the cruises I have taken, several during hurricane season, I will tell you the biggest problem I ever had. Are you ready? The worst thing that ever happened was we had to stay on the ship longer than planned. This was two years ago on Disney. What had happened is that the storm brought too much sand into Port Canaveral and they were unable to clear it out before we came home. So we got a few extra days on the ship while they took us to another port. They then transferred us back to Orlando. So, in my opinion this really isn't a bad situation. But, the main reason you should look into hurricane season is price. The price during this season is going to be lower, simply because many people feel it is unsafe to go during this time. But they take really good care of you and will keep you in the safest situation. So, if you can go during this time, you really should check into it to see if you can get lower prices that way!

Okay, Disney will be the absolute best cruise for your family. Reason, with two sons this is the best option. Disney is wonderful, for kids, for parents, for adults without kids, for everyone. They are absolutely wonderful, they may cost a little more than other cruise lines, but they are so much better it isn't even comparable. Plus, this is the best option when you have kids. Here is a link to a website: http://mousetrips.com/DCL.html this is the travel agency I book all my trips through. They are wonderful. Sometimes you may find a travel agency has group rates available that will give you the lowest cost for the cruise. However, if you want to go in July these may already be sold out.

Here is the problem with your situation. You could go on a Disney cruise for 4 nights, in the lowest category and get a pretty good deal. I just went and priced a 4 night cruise with one adult, one junior and one child for December of 2007 and it is only $3,008.85. This is a great price for all the food, entertainment, accomodations, etc. Here is why. Disney increases the price of their cruises as the ship fills. This means, that if you book the first day rates come out for a cruise you are going to get a better deal than if you only book a few days in advance. To book for July of this year you are looking at spending $3,218.85. Now, this is actually one of the lowest rates I have seen for a cruise that is this close on Disney. It's not a huge difference, but is does make a difference.

Now, if this is still out of your budget, your next best option would probably be to go with Carnival. They have a lot of activities for the kids and they are the lowest cost cruise line. Now, it is true, you get what you pay for. The ship will not be as clean as some other lines, the food isn't quite as good, the service could use some improvement and you may find once you get on board that there are many things that you need not included in the price of the cruise. But, if you really want to get a nice cruise for a good price, this is the way to go. I'm not saying that Carnival is something you should definately stay away from, I am just saying that in my experience I have been more satisfied with other cruise lines. To give you an idea pricing the same situation, Bahamas, 4 nights, July of this year (same date), 1 adult, one junior and one child, the price on Carnival is $1,597.00. So there is a lot of savings between the two.

You just need to consider what your budget is and how much you are willing to spend. If at all possible I would try going with Disney, though they do not sail out of New York as you wanted, they are just great for the whole family and a memory that you and kids will never forget. Also, if you have a Disney visa and use it to pay, you have 6 months no interest to pay it off, this is a big help if it is a little out of your budget. But Carnival is also great. It gets you a way for a few days for a nice vacation to the Bahamas, you can't go wrong.

Read some reviews of Carnival, especially pay attention to the bad reviews. People are always going to find something wrong with a cruise, if you are looking you will find someting. The problems others may have had, may not affect you, so it just depends on what you are looking for. But again, don't get me wrong, Carnival is great, I just think that you would all enjoy Disney more if it was a possiblity.

I hope this was helpful. Good luck with planning your trip!

It is important that everybody knows where to meet after a tragedy, or at the very least know where to call to let the other people know you are OK.
